Nephrolithotomy

Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy is a specialized procedure that involves introducing medical equipment through the skin to access the kidney, locate kidney stones, fragment them, and remove them using specialized forceps. During this procedure, it is common to place a bladder catheter that will be removed the next day, as well as a catheter between the kidney and the skin or between the kidney and the bladder, which may remain for approximately one week to manage tissue inflammation and trauma. This catheter will then be removed in an outpatient setting.
